Day 3 - 21 Days of Prayer Devotional

21 Days of Prayer

DAY 4 - 2 Kings 6:17

17 Then Elisha prayed, "O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!" The Lord opened the young man's eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.

CONSIDER THE CONTEXT

Elisha was a great prophet of the Lord. Because Elisha spoke what God told him to speak many rulers hated Elisha. The King of Aham was one of those rulers. He found out that Elisha was in the city of Dothan and he came and surrounded the city with a great army. Elisha's servant saw the assembly poised to come and possibly kill everyone in the city. Elisha's faith was one that made it possible for him to realize that the "Battle is the Lord's". In today's prayer, Elisha asks that the eyes of his servant be opened so that he could see what Elisha saw - the power of the spiritual world and God's conquering army ready to lead the way. Before the eyes of the servant were opened all he could see was the natural and fear was the result. After his eyes were opened into the spiritual his faith replace his fear and God took control.

CONSIDER THE IMPLICATIONS

Elisha faced overwhelming odds - an entire army of a king against one man. In the natural, the servant's response to those odds was completely appropriate. God has big plans at Coastline. Same goes for your life as well. Those plans will naturally make us tremble in fear and feel defeated at the prospects of the long road ahead. All Elisha did was pray and respond to God's leading. God did all the rest of the hard work. The battle truly is the Lord's. We too are only asked to pray and to respond to His leading - no matter how strange that leading can sometimes seem in light of our circumstance. Can Coastline get done all the many things God has placed before us? Not in the natural. But as our eyes are opened to the power from God that surrounds our Church and your life, fear and defeat will be replaced with courage and determination.

CONSIDER THE PRAYER

Thank God you are in control of my life and in control of where Coastline is heading. All I can see sometimes are the natural barriers out there waiting to take us down. God, open my eyes to you. Open my eyes to the power you have surrounded our Church with. Open my eyes to the army of your heavily hosts that await your orders and fight knowing your victory is secure. Let my faith in you be what allows me to respond and move forward in how I'm needed in your plan at Coastline and beyond. Thank you that I'm not doomed to defeat but poised to stand victorious over the armies that come against you as you lead the way and crush the barriers to your plan coming into completion in my life and in the life of my Church. Amen.
